we recognise that domestic abuse impacts children and young people in many different ways. A child does not need to witness physical violence directly to be affected. Living in an environment shaped by fear, control, tension, conflict, instability, or emotional distress can significantly impact a child or young person’s emotional wellbeing, development, relationships, behaviour, sense of safety, and long-term resilience.
Children and young people may respond to these experiences differently depending on their age, personality, support systems, lived experiences, and protective factors. Some children and young people may experience:
At Child and Youth Partnerships, we provide trauma-informed, child-centred support designed to help children and young people process experiences safely, strengthen resilience, rebuild confidence, and develop healthier coping strategies and relationships.
Through therapeutic experiences, positive engagement, mentoring, creative activities, emotional support, community connection, and meaningful relationship-building, we aim to help children and young people recover from the impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and begin to see themselves beyond the trauma they have experienced.
We understand that healing looks different for every child. Our approach is tailored to the individual needs, strengths, interests, communication styles, and lived experiences of each young person.
Children and young people are supported with care, validation, consistency, and genuine connection.
We actively encourage youth voice throughout the support process, helping children and young people feel heard, respected, included, and empowered in decisions affecting their wellbeing and support.
Our goal is not simply to respond to crisis, but to help children and young people feel safer, more connected, more hopeful, and better supported to thrive long-term.
